Focus: Talking about goals Language: Descriptions using compound adjectives CORRINA: Thanks for coming in to talk about the volunteer position. You're an accountant right? BEN: Yes, that's right. I ran an accountancy firm for five years but then I sold the business and now I'm looking for a job to keep me busy during the week. CORRINA: OK, let's start by looking at your CV. Can you tell me what you were responsible for in your previous job? BEN: In the accountancy firm, I managed a small staff and I kept the business running successfully. CORRINA: Right. So you obviously have good leadership ability. What would you say are your main strengths? BEN: Well I'm pretty strong-minded, I'm very hard-working, but I'm also easygoing so I get along with most people. CORRINA: Good. It's important to be warm and friendly if you work with the public. Do you have any special skills? BEN: I'm very computer literate and obviously I have plenty of administrative and financial skills. CORRINA: Excellent. Those are all useful. Now I'd like to ask you what you feel you can bring to our organization. BEN: Well, it's been my goal to contribute more to the community. I'd like to think I could be a useful resource for members of the public and a friendly face to be around. CORRINA: Perfect. The last thing I need to ask you about is your availability. Are there any times you won't be able to work? BEN: Well, my daughter comes to visit on Thursday afternoons, but apart from that, I'm available all week. CORRINA: Thanks very much for coming in Mr Oakes. We'll be in touch early next week.

I hate spam... March 29, 1990 RICHFIELD,OHIO: Michael Jordan has played a lot of great games, but the greatest basketball player to ever grace an NBA court's performance in Richfield, Ohio, might have been his best. Jordan scored 69 points, the ninth-highest total in NBA history, as Chicago beat Cleveland, 117-113, in overtime and clinched a spot in the playoffs. He made 23 of 37 shots and 21 of 23 free throws. He also had a career-high 18 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. "The guy did it over, over, and over again," Cavaliers forward John Williams said. "He's one in a million, one in a billion." It was the fourth time Jordan had scored more than 60 points. His previous career high was 63 against Boston in the 1986 playoffs. He scored 61 twice in 1987. This game has the highest rated game score in the past 22 years and #2 in history. This was Jordan's career high for rebounds in the regular season (he once had 19 rebounds in a playoff game). Jordan didn't "gun" or "shotjack" to attain this 69. It all comes within the flow of the offense and he wisely tries to keep his teammates involved throughout the entire game. He never forced his scoring, if MJ did force his scoring he would have shattered 100 points in one game easily. There were several games where he reached the high 50's and simply pulled himself out of the game because the game was in hand. What I want you to focus on is the intensity of the defense. Not only have I included plays which feature Jordan. Once again I have included plays from Jordan's opponent. This was a very close game. The Cavs were a team capable of 60+ wins if they could stay healthy. This was a 69 point game on a playoff caliber team. Similar to Jordan's 63 point game vs the 67 win celtics dynasty team which featured the great Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Dennis Johnson and the rest of the great cast of players. Jordan saved his best scoring performances for the big games. Jordan was so great at raising his team's level of play, they were like an extention of his arm at times. He really set these guys up for some good looks. Pay attention to everything folks, not just the guy with the ball. Notice the fundamentals, ball fakes, spin moves out of doubles, and I really like the way MJ showcased his greatest jumper of all time in this game. Larry Nance was fairly easy to upset, he was a tough competitor. When you have guys like Nance waiting in the lane, jumpers start to look like the better option. ============================ EDITED BY BRUCE BLITZ ============================
