It??™s been months since I last posted- but that doesn??™t mean I haven??™t fished. I had a cracking summer holiday sea fishing in Norway, catching plenty of fish, such as what Norwegian??™s call Blue Steal, (plus green and red variants) along with whiting and mackerel (a first).

If you ever get the chance to fish in Norway you should- the sport is excellent although you do get strange looks if you practice ???catch and release??™ but we did obviously eat the whiting and mackerel. At some point in the future I??™ll go back there to have a crack at the trout and salmon fishing.

Talking of which, I??™ve been doing a fair bit of Fly Fishing and have caught some decent 3lb plus fish on flies that I had tied myself, which is a first! So I feel I can now count myself as a ???real??™ fly fisherman.? 

and as it??™s the semi-off season for trout, I??™ve been tidying up my kit and tying a lot of flies. I say semi-off season as you can still fish plenty of still waters all the year through for rainbow trout etc, but for browns, fishing for the year is done.

I??™ve also purchased an Orvis Battenkill reel for my 3/4 lightweight Greys trout rod and I hope to get out onto a local chalk-stream and have a crack at some non-trout species such as chub whilst the weather remains warm. Although I??™m not put off by the rain, the cold for me is absolutely devastating and I really don??™t fancy fishing in it. I guess we??™ll see though.

Over the coming weeks we??™re going to see a refocus on the Angling2Fish architecture as I have become predominantly a fly fisherman and I barely ever go out coarse fishing/sea fishing any more.

For me, an occasionally flutter with carp fishing/spinning/lure fishing is all well and good and diversity is a good thing (and fun), but it??™s not necessarily something I should be writing about on this site- as there are plenty of other anglers out there who are passionate about specific forms of fishing and I think it??™s best to let them do the talking in these subjects.

All you coarse/sea anglers who have been stopping by, I would like to thank you for your time and wish you well in your fishing pursuits- after all, I like to think of us as one big fishing family.

As for the fly fishing fraternity, we??™ll be expanding this side of the site greatly and you can expect more information on where to fly fish, what to fly fish with, fly tying and everything you could possibly think of in relation to fly fishing. We may even dabble with a bit of sea/fly fishing when the moment takes us as it is always interesting to read about other things.

So, this means we??™ll be re-jigging the site somewhat and moving things around a little, we??™ll probably keep the majority of articles/posts we have written on other forms of fishing, but we may push them off into a side section.

I purchased the above book today to help with identification of the insect life found around the rivers, streams and still-waters I fish. Not only, so I know what it is the fish are feeding on but also to aid with ideas for tying my own fly fishing patterns.

I know a lot of fly fishermen do not have any interest in tying their own flies, and I guess that is fair enough, it would be a boring world if everyone was the same, but for me I enjoy creating flies that catch fish. It gives me an enormous sense of achievement.

Although I will buy flies (the overly difficult ones to tie) I do prefer to tie my own and I generally lean towards a preference for ???naturals??™, so this book will be a great aid. Check it out, it??™s quite good value for money and very informative with plenty of colour photographs.

Fishing sports are growing in popularity and one of the most prized fishes is the salmon. There are many varieties and each fisherman has his or her favorite. The granddaddy of Pacific salmon is the Chinook. It can weigh in at up to 100 pounds and grow to 40 inches in length. Chinook make up only about one percent of the annual salmon harvest.

Every once in a while we like to mix it up a little by showing some cool wildlife seen while fishing or a cool wildlife video shot by our staff or fans. This great whitetail video was shot 10/15/06 by Chad. The video shows a nice young buck walking under Chad??™s stand and then making a scrape. Also if you listen closely at around the 1-minute mark of the video you can hear the buck grunt.

This clip shot 10/10/06 features Chris Munchow and Jon Marshall out chasing big fat October muskies in the Twin Cites Metro area. Slow crawling a large jointed crankbait over shallow rocks produced this nice heavy 43-inch muskie for Jon at around 6:00pm.

Close but no cigar in this video clip shot in mid-September. Just off the top of the video, a nice Vermillion muskie noses the lure then follows in until seeing the boat. This fish was one of many we moved off of main lake rock reefs.
